Congratulations to four students from the Laboratory of Systems Biology who defended their theses in Applied Physics.
Cärolin Grahv defended her bachelor's thesis, Deconvolution of three-dimensional epifluorescence microscopy images. Supervised by Marko Vendelin and Martin Laasmaa, her work evaluated Richardson-Lucy deconvolution with total-variation regularization for three-dimensional epifluorescence images and established a measured point-spread function for the microscope.
Celica Krigul defended her bachelor's thesis, Application of distribution-moment approximation to a cooperative muscle-force model. Supervised by Marko Vendelin, her work applied a computationally efficient distribution-moment approximation to a model of cooperative cross-bridge activity in muscle contraction.
Otto Gustavson defended his bachelor's thesis, Modelling of cardiomyocyte bioenergetics. Supervised by Marko Vendelin and Martin Laasmaa, his work developed a model to estimate diffusion barriers and ATP-synthesis rates in mouse and rat heart cells from experimental measurements.
Kristofer Hiis-Hommuk defended his master's thesis, Applying RICS for analysis of heterogeneous solutions. Supervised by Marko Vendelin, his work used fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and raster image correlation spectroscopy to measure lipoprotein lipase diffusion and developed a filtering approach for heterogeneous samples.
